What roles can I play in RSPVH?
By joining RSPVH, you can play a part in contributing back to society through our weekly tuition session. In addition, you can join the the events planning team where the team will brainstorm and carry out unique and interesting outings and activities for the beneficiaries to engage in. This is highly important as these outing not only brightens up the beneficiaries' life, but it also serves as meaningful sessions for volunteers to interact and bond with all the beneficiaries. If you are a person who is innovative, you can also choose to join our business team where they will help to source for donation or come up with business ideas that can generate money to help cover the high cost imposed by the weekly transportation, which fetches the beneficiaries from their home to the tuition centre.
Can I join RSPVH if I have no prior experience with volunteer work and/or handling the visually handicapped?
You are most welcome to join us as long as you have the heart to serve. We have an orientation for new volunteers and you will be taught how to handle our beneficiaries.
Do I need to learn the Braille system?
No, learning Braille is not necessary. Our beneficiaries will read out the the questions to the volunteers tutoring them. Many of our beneficiaries have low vision and with the aid of special lens systems, they are able to achieve a certain level of visibility.
Is it compulsory to attend the tuition session every week?
It is highly encouraged for all volunteers to go for the tuition session every week because each beneficiary have their own academic weakness. Since all volunteers are attached to a beneficiary each, it is the responsibility of the volunteers to be able to follow up with the beneficiaries' academic progress. In addition, it would be better for volunteers to take time to know their weakness, which can greatly help in faciliating the tuition.
Is there any membership fee?
There is no membership fee.
