About RSPVH...

Regular Service Project for the Visually Handicapped (RSPVH) is one of the seven Regular Service Projects under the wing of Welfare Services Club (WSC), Nanyang Technological University.

Set up in year 2002, RSPVH seeks to reach out to the visually handicapped community in Singapore. When we first started out, our focus was mainly on the visually handicapped elderly. Touch Art sessions were held and items made were sold by the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) at its store.

Over the years however, we have progressed and our target group is now the visually handicapped youths. Volunteers provide weekly tuition and interact with these youths, at the same time, lending a listening ear when needed during the process of mentoring. RSPVH's aim is to assist these students in adapting to education in mainstream schools, and to enhance their self-esteem and self-confidence.

Sometimes, through our conversations with the youths, we are able to share in their joys and sorrows at home and in school. Over time, we gain their trust and establish firm friendships, which give volunteers a strong sense of satisfaction too.

All these efforts are geared towards enabling the visually handicapped to lead more fulfilling lives and to increase their sense of belonging to society. As RSPVH volunteers, we hope to bridge their lack and empower them for a brighter future. In addition, RSPVH also organizes occasional outings and activities for the beneficiaries, such as the annual Food Hunt, Christmas and Chinese New Year Celebrations. We hope that through these events, our beneficiaries will gain more opportunities to cultivate and build positive relationships with their fellow peers.
